Sygic Launches iOS Version of the Most Popular Navigation App for Truckers and Commercial Drivers

Sygic, the most downloaded truck navigation app on Android, today launches its navigation app for RVs, buses, delivery vans and large trucks on iOS, which is now available for download on both iPhones and iPads. The company is also launching a major update for its Android service.

Sygic’s defining “Head-Up Display” is designed with safety in mind. The easy-to-use HUD interface allows drivers to flip the display screen, which then clearly projects routes from the smartphone or tablet directly onto the windshield, keeping drivers’ eyes on the road.

Drivers select their vehicle type, input dimensions and weight and are then presented with detailed 3D maps that show the routes suitable for their particular truck, delivery van, RV or bus - thus avoiding all unsuitable roads and bridges. The mapping system, provided by HERE, also operates in offline mode, which is indispensable for journeys in remote areas with little data coverage.

What’s more, the Sygic Truck Navigation app shares points of interest, parking places, and gas stations suitable for trucks, buses or RVs. Drivers can also use their app in a normal car, at no extra cost, simply by switching settings. The app also offers optional paid add-ons such as live traffic information, speed camera traps, and turn-by-turn voice guidance.

“Sygic’s mission is to guide every person in the world, improving safety, convenience, and navigation as we go,” said Sygic’s founder and CEO Michal Štencl. “Sygic’s navigation app for trucks and commercial vehicles will help to reduce nighttime traffic accidents by allowing drivers to fully concentrate on the road, rather than being distracted by their SatNav screen.”

According to the Bergh Insight, in 2013 there were 12 million Heavy Goods Vehicles in the USA, and 5.5 million in Europe. The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association reports that the number of households owning RVs in U.S. in 2011 was 8.9 million.

The company differentiates itself from the competition with its proprietary Head-Up Display, and a “Right Turn” feature, which offers routes avoiding left turns. This not only improves fuel efficiency, but also avoids riskier left turns (this works automatically as a Left Turn feature in the United Kingdom and other countries with left-hand driving).

“We believe Sygic’s app for truckers, bus and RV drivers is the safest and most complete SatNav solution available. We’re extremely pleased to now be offering the service on the iPhone, and we’re looking forward to getting even more drivers on the road with Sygic.” added Štencl.

Sygic costs $139 in North America and €129 in Europe and comes with a 14 day free trial.
