For businesses in petroleum distribution, keeping large trucks on appropriate, compliant roads is an important part of daily operations.
ADD Systems is a long-established software provider to the petroleum distribution industry, offering both back-office operations software and mobile field solutions. When ADD Systems began looking for a new commercial mapping solution, truck profiles quickly became one of the key priorities.
Why ADD Systems chose Sygic
After reviewing other options, ADD Systems found that Sygic was a good match for its need to support truck-specific routing.
“We had offered another application for commercial mapping but found ourselves looking to see what else was out there and this is when we found Sygic Professional Navigation. The ability to have truck profiles that would keep trucks off roads they should not be on was a major driving factor in our solution needs,” John F. Coyle, Vice President of Sales at ADD Systems explains.
How navigation is used by ADD Systems’ customers
Sygic Professional Navigation is integrated into ADD Systems’ Raven Mobile Delivery software and Pegasus Mobile field service application, supporting the route from planning through to delivery.
“Dispatchers plan the delivery routes based on forecasting done by our customers. These deliveries are plotted on a map, the routes are optimized for mileage reduction and then assigned to drivers for the deliveries to be made. Once in the truck, the driver uses Sygic for turn-by-turn directions as he/she makes their way through the route, making deliveries,” Coyle explains.
Benefits in day-to-day operations
According to ADD Systems, truck specific navigation supports both dispatchers and drivers in practical ways. “Truck parameters help protect vehicles and drivers from roads or bridges that will not support the truck, while route optimization helps create more productive delivery routes, more customers delivered per day, and higher margins,” Coyle explains.
What customers see in practice
ADD Systems says clients can see the impact from day one. In their view, every mile saved counts when running large trucks with high operating costs.
“Yes, I would say our clients see efficiency day one. The trucks are large, expensive to buy and maintain. Each tire can cost over $700 per tire, so you can imagine every mile saved on a route translates into real dollars saved,” Coyle explains.
“Add to that the ability to support more customers per day with your added efficiency and you’re really growing your business,” Coyle adds.
What drivers see in practice
At the same time, driver adoption can evolve over time.
“While some drivers are resistant to being told where to go, thinking they know best based on their experience, they often come around to see that the route planning and optimization do make them more efficient. Once they see it for themselves, they are all in,” Coyle explains.
“Navigation also helps newer drivers get up to speed faster, even if they do not know the area well. “But equally important is now we can take a new driver who does not know the area and make him/her as efficient as a driver with 20 years’ experience,” Coyle adds.

Next steps
ADD Systems plans to expand the integration further by incorporating Sygic into the new Android version of its mobile platforms. “Yes, we will be incorporating Sygic into our new Android version of our mobile platforms with the delivery software due out this year,” Coyle explains.
ADD Systems also sees Sygic as a partner that has been willing to collaborate, discuss improvements, and stay responsive along the way.
“Thus far we have found Sygic to be a good partner for ADD Systems. They have been willing to work with us and discuss opportunities for improvement, and they continue to be responsive to our needs,” Coyle adds.
As the company continues to develop its mobile platforms, it is also building on a partnership that has worked well so far.
