FBR (Fertigbeton Rheinland GmbH & Co. KG) has been serving the construction industry for over 60 years and is headquartered in Düren-Birkesdorf. The company operates a network of seven stationary concrete mixing plants in the Rhineland and the Netherlands. The entire fleet – consisting of truck mixers, concrete pumps, and cement trucks – is fully equipped with Sygic Professional Navigation.

The Challenge

In 2017, FBR faced a growing challenge: coordinating concrete deliveries to hard-to-reach locations such as wind farms and new residential areas where there were no street names yet. Standard GPS solutions were simply not reliable enough – they needed navigation designed for the realities of heavy-duty transport.

How It Works Today

Today, the entire delivery process is coordinated using Sygic:

• Orders from an external system are set up with exact GPS coordinates.
• Drivers receive the orders directly on their tablets.
• Sygic provides turn-by-turn navigation to the construction site.
• Dispatchers receive live updates – including accurate arrival times – directly in their system.

Using GPS coordinates has greatly simplified daily operations, especially when driving to new developments without street names. One impactful improvement is weight-based routing: loaded vehicles avoid restricted roads and bridges, while empty vehicles can use faster return routes. Without this function, drivers could end up on weight-restricted bridges, leading to safety risks and legal consequences. Additionally, longer detours would result in delays and increased stress.

Drivers have also noticed that updates are available more quickly. "Truck-restricted roads are updated faster now. Feedback from drivers shows this has improved," says Mr. Andre Radermacher (Technical Manager at FBR). He adds: "It gets better every year. It recognizes everything and takes me wherever I need to go."

For dispatchers, accurate arrival times make all the difference – not just for tracking but also for planning, meeting delivery time windows, and responding to customer inquiries. Instead of relying on calls or estimates, they can see in real time when a vehicle will arrive and adjust the plan accordingly.

"The arrival times Sygic provides are actually always pretty accurate. That helps us plan better and answer customer questions without guesswork," says Mr. Radermacher.
